Ninth-seeded Atlanta United went to Inter Miami’s home ground and bested Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Jordi Alba - the MLS regular-season champions and arguably the best MLS squad ever assembled - in the first round of the playoffs. It began with a quick brace from Senegalese striker Jamal Thiare inside 21 minutes, just seconds after Matias Rojas opened the scoring for the hosts. Miami drew level midway through the second half on a Messi goal, but a late winner from Batrosz Slisz stunned the Herons, knocking out the No. 1 seed and rewriting MLS playoff history. When push came to shove, Brad Guzan won the day - literally.
